Security Questions

1. What type of security do you use on your site?

Answer: Skylights Direct orders are sent over the Internet using PGP encryption. PGP provides protection against anyone eavesdropping on the network. Even if the information is intercepted, it is completely unreadable to the snooper. Authentication identifies the origin of the information, certainty that it is authentic, and that it has not been altered.

2. I am concerned about giving my Credit Card number, what are my options?

Answer: After you have added items to your shopping cart and are ready to place an order, choose the "order offline" option instead of "secure order". At this point you can either print out the order and fax it to Skylights Direct with the Credit Card number written in or you can call Skylights Direct. A representative will be able to view your order after you give him/her your e-mail address. You will then be able to give your Credit Card number to Skylights Direct over the phone.

3. What is your Privacy Policy?

Answer: Our privacy policy is stated on our Privacy Policy page.

Pricing Questions

1. Is pricing on your site?

Answer: YES. Simply click on the pricing icon at the top of each page.

2. How competitively priced are your skylights?

Answer: On quantities of 3 or more, we have not found a more competitive source over the internet! Keep in mind when you add freight, our price is delivered to your door.

3. Do you sell Tubular Skylights?

Answer: We don't offer tubular skylights on this site, but we do own and operate a site that sells Velux Sun Tunnel tubular skylights. Please visit us at http://www.tubulardirect.com.

4. Do you offer quantity discounts?

Answer: YES!. We offer a 7% discount on your order when 2 skylights are purchased and 11% discount on your order when 3 or more skylights are purchased. The discount does not apply to freight charges.

5. When is the discount applied to my order?

Answer: Currently, our shopping cart doesn't automatically calculate the discount so you will not see the discount when you decide to make your purchase. When we receive the order, we will check that you qualify for a discount, verify your credit card information and authorization and you will receive a net invoice from Builder's Direct showing the discount and the amount your credit card was charged. There is no discount on freight.

Skylight Questions

1. Can a skylight leak?

Answer: VELUX skylights use flashing kits that are specific to roof pitch and roofing material. Provided the proper VELUX flashing is used and installed correctly, we will stand behind the product against leaks for the life of the roof.

2. What do I do about clouding/fogging between the panes of glass?

Answer: Clouding/fogging of an insulating glass unit occurs when there is a break in the inner seal of an insulated glass, and as a result condensation forms between the two panes. VELUX skylights are warrantied against seal failure for ten years. If you have this problem, please provide us with the serial number off the skylight/s and we will be glad to help you determine what to do next. There are two places to find the numbers: one is between the panes of glass on the silver bar that separates the two panes, and the other is on an identification tag mounted to the interior frame. On a Vented unit the sash may have to be opened to see the tag.

3. Are sunscreening accessories available for VELUX?

Answer: VELUX offers Manual or Electric Pleated shades in silver-grey and black, manual roller shades in natural and twilight, and manual or electric venetian blinds for most of our products. Any of these can be added during or after installation of the skylight.

4. Will a skylight or roof window let too much heat into the room?

Answer: VELUX Skylights offer low-e glass as a standard in all of our units. The low-e coating is designed to let in the most amount of light and the least amount of heat. Once your skylights are installed, if you are still experiencing too much heat gain, a sunscreening accessory can be easily added.

5. Will the sun fade my carpet and furniture?

Answer: With any extended light exposure there is going to be some fading that is unavoidable, but VELUX skylights offer the option of a laminated low-e glazing that blocks 99.9% of the suns ultraviolet rays, and this will greatly reduce the amount of fading in your home. This glazing should be specified as "comfort plus" when purchasing your VELUX skylight.

6. How do I operate out-of-reach VELUX Skylights?

Answer: Out-of-reach VELUX skylights can be manually operated with our ZCT 300 6'-10' control rod. VELUX also offers a complete electric system for out-of-reach skylights.

7. Can I operate a VELUX Skylight electrically?

Answer: Yes. The new VSE Electric Venting Skylight makes it simple. Every VSE comes with a concealed motor and control system, remote and two rain sensors pre-installed. To top it off, every VSE is also pre-wired for electrical accessories, so adding blinds is a snap. Everything is pre-assembled and ready to install out of the box.

8. Should I make my openings before I recieve the skylights?

Answer: NO. Each person looks at the rough opening differently from the next. The best way is to have all the materials in your possesion before starting the project. The ECX and EMX Flashings will significantly change your rough opening. Do not make the opening without having the materials for these two items. Visit our ECX Flashing rough opening chart for a general idea of rough openings. This is for roof pitches below 3/12 (15 degrees).
